Baum Urban Architects

This project began as a response to the problems of monotonous urban development―disconnection from the past, expansion of residential areas at the expense of green space, and lack of opportunities for interaction and communication. In Sillim District 1, the design must consider the urban landscape opened up by key viewpoints and continue the flow of green space from Gwanak Mountain, while harmonizing with the hilly terrain along the waterfront. By restoring elements such as the traditional market and the stream, the project seeks to create a distinctive living environment that reinforces both the neighborhood’s identity and its sense of place. In response to the shift toward remote economic activities, and the resulting changes in residents’ housing preferences, the project proposes a new type of village―one that flexibly adapts to the evolving urban lifestyle and supports a resilient, community-oriented way of living.
