The Quandamooka Art, Museum and Performance Institute (QUAMPI) is a landmark cultural tourism destination for Queensland, bringing together ancient Quandamooka artefacts with contemporary art, music, dance, and performance. Located on Deanbilla Bay, Gumpi (Dunwich), Minjerribah, it will also become the permanent home of the Quandamooka Festival.
QUAMPI realises a long-held aspiration to create a lasting space for the Nunukul, Goenpul, and Ngugi Peoples. It honours Ancestors and Elders, providing a place of welcome and truth-telling through the sharing of Quandamooka knowledge, creativity, and history.
Nestled between beach and bush, QUAMPI features exhibition and workshop spaces, a yarning circle, and gathering areas for community and elders. More than a building, it is a living no_expression of Country―an immersive cultural and educational experience that invites all to connect with the stories and spirit of Minjerribah.
Co-designed by the Quandamooka People, the building consists of three interconnected elements―the ground plane, vertical plane, and canopy―symbolising the layers of Quandamooka country. At its centre is the use of rammed earth, incorporating the island’s coloured sands and embedded oyster shells, symbolising the community’s deep connection to land and sea that have sustained them for generations.
