Chogak-Bo

Rintala Eggertsson Architects
Chogak-Bo
Chogak-Bo is a traditional Korean textile technique that, in many ways, has become synonymous with the concept of recycling. Born out of the need to economize, as well as the idea of giving a new life to something considered scrap, these geometric assemblies show us how beauty and simplicity often go hand-in-hand. In our installation, pieces of harvested wood are brought together between layers of dimensioned lumber, highlighting the interplay of regularity and irregularity that is characteristic of the Chogak-Bo technique where opposites of color, size, and shape assemble into a comprehensive whole. Through the installation, the viewer can see the scarred, memory-embedded wood alongside fresh and pristine lumber, giving the chance to simultaneously connect the past, present, and future of the material.
