Adiabatic Urban Cooling

AREP
Adiabatic Urban Cooling
Vietnam is considered one of the countries most vulnerable to the effects of climate change, with heat waves being one of the most cyclic issues. Modern AC solutions have a heavy environmental cost by requiring a formidable amount of energy, triggering heavy smog pollution, and by emitting ozone depleting substances. Adiabatic cooling is a sustainable technique that does not require any refrigerant gas. It is based on a simple and natural principle; a cooling effect generated by evaporating water. By crossing the principle of an adiabatic cooling device with Vietnam’s know-how in arts and craft, wrapped into a naturally resistant hyperboloid structure, we propose a low-tech alternative solution to cool public spaces with only hot air and water, without using energy nor any refrigerant gas.
