MFArchitects The project behind the artwork is a prison located in Montevideo, the capital city of Uruguay. This project approaches the issue of risk from a social perspective, from the implicit violence in its social and economic model. Prisons are cities within cities, made invisible by a wall. Thinking about a prison implies thinking about the city―it is a field of urban and social experimentation. In the artwork, shivs are suspended from the ceiling, and reflected by a mirror on the floor, which generates the sensation of threat to those who look up and down. These threats come from the city, from the outside, while below, it is the visitor who is immersed in the world of the prison. The outside and the inside, the city and the prison, are two worlds that are the causes and consequences of each other.
