Enclosure

Leia Gorra, Tiago Guedes Madeira, Sophie Picoty, Alex Rodriguez
Enclosure
Enclosure is an immersive art installation showing a space delimited by barriers, an existing and yet forbidden public space in Beirut city. Since the Lebanese civil war, Beirut’s squares, beaches, parks and streets have gradually transformed into restricted spaces, privatized by real estate developers and the Lebanese government. Enclosure is a representation of the oppressive barriers scattered across Beirut. The barriers are raw. Their materiality is the content itself: social, political and urban. The barrier art installation reveals the potentialities of the public space as the place-founder of the city. An element that structures the city and guarantees its access. Thus, to denounce the access prohibition to the public space is to carry a project of society, to carry the requirement to question the role of a resilient, open, and the city of the future.
