Saif Ul Haque Towards a City of Equity is an installation featuring the city of Dhaka and depicts selective information about the city and its possibilities for the future. The installation is not a comprehensive presentation of the past, present, or future of Dhaka, but rather an assemblage of images touching upon a few aspects of the city. Now the capital of Bangladesh, the history of Dhaka can be traced to the 14th century A.D., and by the 17th century A.D. it had become a prominent administrative and a commercial place. In terms of population, Dhaka was ranked 9th by the United Nations in 2018 and is projected to be 4th by 2030. Faced with many challenges, this vibrant and rapidly growing city, by achieving an acceptable standard of living for the socially and economically deprived, can aspire to become a city of equity.
