Characterized by narrow alleys, there is no space for the public or recreational activity, and thus they are no place to have a good quality of life. It is quite important to understand that one of the key factors of a resilient city is community and its ability to communicate issues to diverse cultural groups. The Dawar El Ezba Cultural Center aims at providing a space for the residents of Ezbet Khairallah, one of Cairo’s most underprivileged neighborhoods, by offering a chance for the people to express, dance, sing, act, and indulge in all that is humane. The building draws inspiration from the existing local resources by utilizing them to produce new forms, hence retranslating the deteriorated architectural malpractice.
