Matthias Hollenstein (Studio Hollenstein) Green Square Library and Plaza is an urban living room located at the heart of Australia’s largest urban renewal area and includes a 3,000m2 library and an 8,000m2 plaza. The design fuses these elements together by placing the library largely underground and maximizing the public open space at ground level. The groundscape presents fictions that reimagine―through subtle design insertions, incisions, and graftings―the relationship of the ground and below with existing iconic buildings.
