GAMBJTS Toronto is a city built for a climate that no longer exists. The Beneath the City: Rivers project fosters innovative design interventions by daylighting hidden waterways. It is a process of excavation and embankment that re-naturalizes human-altered landscapes. The master plan proposed conveys the necessity for an integrated relationship between the city and the rivers beneath. The Beneath the City: Rivers exhibition installation celebrates several of Toronto’s lost rivers as a unique ecological phenomenon. A digitally fabricated 4 km area hovers upside down with the proposed daylighting interventions reflected in a large convex mirror. A continuous section drawing presenting the unearthed river in the context of the city is placed along the perimeter of the display structure.
