Xu Tiantian (DnA Design and Architecture) The bridge over the Songyin River links the two villages of Shimen and Shimenyu. The existing stone masonry bridge with its characteristic arches dates back to the 1950s. Xu Tiantian created a roofed-over bridge space that calls to mind the historic Wind and Rain Bridge. The Songyin River’s dam system, of significant cultural and historical relevance, has been regulating the river’s flow for 1500 years. The architect designed a simple wooden structure, which defines the new space with its additive sequence. The visual connection to the river, and even more so the cultural elevation of the bridge, defines a shared cultural space among the two neighboring villages, allowing each to experience their historical link in a new way.
