Three Cities: Assemblage Urbanism

Assemblage Urbanism is based on the consolidation of the three cities of Masan, Changwon, and Jinhae into the municipality of Changwon, Korea. Titled in reference to the theme of the imminent commons, Changwon’s presentation is an investigation into the architectural phenomenon, constructed in the different urban settings of each city, that emerge from the politico-economic interventions of this tri-city merger. The exhibition juxtaposes two conditions of the merging of the three cities: a historical trajectory of urban plot formations and parameters defining the buildings that illustrate their relationship to the idea of locality. We have selected research from each city in order to contrast the two conditions of assemblage urbanism. A manifesto is embedded within urban settings that have been triggered by top-down development.
